The History of the Klassy Kappa Chapter

  Kappa Chapter was chartered on February 14, 1920 on the campus of Butler University. The charter members of Kappa Chapter are: Hazel Alexander; Murray Atkins; Selma Beck; Eugenia Dent; Ada Hoskins Wheeler; Henrietta Herod;  Fannie Hyde; Joyce Thompson Stewart; Phyllis Wheatley Waters; Goldie Thompson; Mercy Woolfork; and Marie Stokes. Our City-Wide Chapter encompasses Butler University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Franklin College, Marian University, and the University of Indianapolis. Kappa Chapter is the tenth International Chapter and the seventh Undergraduate Chapter  of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

The Crest

The Crest that is now an official symbol of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was designed by Kappa Chapter Charter Member Phyllis Wheatley Waters. The Crest was adopted by the 1920 Boule.
